Sulla riva sinistra del torrente Dezzo, sul fondovalle, Azzone, con la frazione Dezzo, si presenta come centro montano dall'economia ancora parzialmente legata a quell'attività mineraria che caratterizzò nel passato l'intera vallata. Come per gli altri paesi scalvini, Azzone fu contraddistinta da vicende storiche alterne che le consentirono, tuttavia, posizioni particolarmente vantaggiose per quanto riguardava l'estrazione di ferro, zinco e piombo dalle miniere. Feudo del vescovo di Bergamo, il paese divenne nel 1222 "Repubblica della Valle di Scalve", quindi cadde sotto l'influenza del dominio veneto. Un grosso masso salvò fortuitamente la frazione Dezzo dalle acque straripate dalla diga del Glenonel 1923.
